Question: Do I need a scanner to use ABBYY FineReader?
Answer: No, you do not need a scanner to run the program. You can use image files, for example, photos from your digital camera.

Trial version

Question: How do I get the trial version of the program?
Answer: A trial version of the program is not availabe at the moment. It will be available in the nearest future, please follow the information on our web-site.

System requirements

Question: Does the program work on Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard)?
Answer: Yes, Mac OS 10.6 is supported.

Question: Is ABBYY FineReader Express Edition for Mac universal binary software?
Answer: Yes, it is. The program runs natively on both PowerPC and Intel-based Macintosh computers.

Scanning

Question: What scanning settings are preferable for recognition purposes?
Answer: Resolution: 300 dpi for standard texts (font size 10 and larger) and 400-600 dpi for texts with small font (font size 9 and less). Color: Gray.

Question: In Quick Tasks I cannot select Scanner in Get Images From field, it is only possible to open images from file.
Answer: This can happen if your scanner uses emulated driver. Very old scanner models, for which there are no Intel for Mac OS X drivers, are not supported.

Question: After scanning the program freezes and nothing happens.
Answer: When scanning is finished, you should close the scanning dialog manually. This dialog is not closed automatically. After you close the scanning dialog, recognition process should begin.

Recognition

Question: Can I recognize document written in more than one language?
Answer: Yes, you can select up to 3 recognition languages at a time from the list of supported languages.

Question: Can I recognize several documents at a time?
Answer: Yes, in ABBYY FineReader Express Edition for Mac you can recognize several documents at once. During recognition they will be merged in one resulting file.
